Healing past wounds by understanding where they come from. As humans we hold five main wounds that seem to impact our lives from achieving success. The wounds are rejection, abandonment, injustice, betrayal and humiliation. The author teaches readers that we can have a mix of several of this wounds and they can impact our lives in varying degrees. It was very interesting to learn that having these wounds can even transform our physical bodies.after reading this book I really began to look at myself to see what wounds I was physically reflecting. Being incarcerated I have met many inmates that hold deep wounds of feeling rejected, betrayed and abandoned by society. This leads to people withdrawing away from the community and feeling further isolated. I think this maybe leads to the ongoing struggle of the cycle of incarceration. Possibly by reading this book an inmate might understand where their emotional wounds have originated and work to fix them. That was my goal in reading this book. I learned many of my emotional wounds as an adult stem from the feeling of parental rejection and abandoment as a child. It led to trust issues where I felt I couldn’t count on others. After reading this book I saw that many of these wounds came from my parents, but I learned that I wasn’t alone in this struggle. My parents were doing their best, but they had their own early wounds they were working through. These wounds shaped our relationship interactions. It gave me a deep sense of forgives towards them and all others I have had trouble connecting with. Maybe this same forgiveness will come to other inmates that read the book. In the end we all have these wounds and it is our individual responsibility to work to heal them.
